College Student Personnel Administration
This course provides an overview of the historical, philosophical, intellectual, and organizational foundations of student affairs in post-secondary education. This course also explores student affairs functions, professional organizations, and professional standards, as well as develops an understanding of the relationships between student affairs professionals, faculty, and other administrative areas and external constituents.
Student Development Theory
The purpose of this course is to gain a deeper understanding of college student development theory and its application to practice. Human development theories especially applicable to college students will be examined. Cognitive, moral, psycho-social, and ethical theories are examined. Adult development, racial and sexual identity development models, spiritual development, typology and a critique of student development theory are included.
Ethical and Practical Issues in Student Affairs
This course is designed to provide an overview of ethical issues in student affairs and higher education. Students will discover through experiential learning how any dilemma or decision can be approached through an ethical paradigm. Students will articulate and use individual ethical principles to enhance personal an professional development.
Introduction to Research Methods
This course deals with the methods of research, scientific methods, problem identification, and research design in the behavioral sciences. It is designed to prepare students to write a professional paper, research report, thesis that can be used for the competency requirements of SAHE.
