Q: When are applications due?

A: All applications are due by Friday, January 7, 2005.

Q: Where do I send my application materials?

A: This is a two part answer:

If you are also applying to the SAHE program, the assistantship application is completed with the program application. The complete application should be sent by January 7, 2007 to:

Q: Do I need to take the GRE to be considered for the program?

A: The GRE is not required for admission. There is, however, a required minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0. If your undergraduate gpa is less than that, other information (such as strong GRE scores or record of success in graduate courses) may also be taken into consideration.

Q: Can I come to campus and talk to students?

A: Absolutely! Applicants are invited to call 970-491-SAHE (7243) to set up a campus visit. We can arrange a campus tour and meetings with current students. Applicants are also encouraged to call the office to talk with students if a visit is not feasible.

Q: Is the program open to international students?

A: Yes! The program welcomes international students.

Q: What sets this program apart from other higher education, masters degree granting, preparation programs?

A: Students earn a Master of Science degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education. Our Program Director is a full-time faculty member who has been a practioner in higher education administration for over 30 years. Most of the other teaching faculty are current practitioners in the field. Students publish a journal with recent research from faculty, alumni and students. Students are not required to write a thesis or professional paper, and instead complete a portfolio that assesses their professional knowledge and practice competencies.

Q: Are students required to have an assistantship?

A: Students are not required to have an assistantship but they are strongly encouraged. These positions allow for application of academic gains to practical experiences. All 25-30 hour/week assistantships cover student tuition and provide a monthly stipend. View more information on assistantships at our Assistantship Information webpage.

Q: Am I limited to only the experiences from my assistantship?

A: There are many ways to be involved at Colorado State University. Students have chosen to advise student groups, join committees, participate in recreational sports, and seek out other professional opportunities. Students are also required to complete two, seventy-five hour practicum experiences outside of assistantships. This allows for more education and professional opportunities.

Q: What is the best way to send my letters of recommendation?

A: To assure that you know your application is complete, you can choose to include the letters with your program and graduate application forms that you submit to the Graduate Programs Office in the School of Education. They do not have to be in sealed and signed envelopes. Letters of recommendation can also be mailed directly by the recommender(s) to the Graduate Programs Office in the School of Education to be included with your file.

Q: Do you offer rolling admissions?

A: Due to the nature of our program, we only accept applicants for the start of the following fall semester.

Q: Are current students right out of their undergraduate experience or do they work previous to enrollment?

A: Our students come to the program with varied experiences. Some of the students in our program are directly from their undergraduate experience, in which they have had student affairs experience. Other students have worked as professionals in student affairs or related fields and are returning to school to earn their masters degree.
