SAHE Faculty

Linda Ahuna-Hamill
Originally from CA, I earned my bachelor's degree in English from the University of California at Irvine, home of the mighty Anteaters. I came to Colorado State University in 1983 to pursue my master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration, now known as SAHE, and completed the program in 1985. Over twenty years and an additional degree later (Ph.D. in sociology), I am still at the university! I was honored to help develop the Asian/Pacific American Student Services office and served as the Director of A/PASS until September 2004. I am now the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs. I currently co-teach the Inclusive University class with Dr. Blanche Hughes and am an advisor in the SAHE program.

Kris Binard
I traveled throughout the United States before moving to Colorado in 1992. I am currently the Dean of Student Services at Front Range Community College, Boulder Campus and I co-teach the College Student Personnel History and Philosophy course at CSU. I have a Master’s degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education and am currently working on my doctorate in Educational Leadership and Innovation. My interests include strategic planning, assessment, and leadership.

Martha Denney
Martha Denney is the Director of International Education and has been involved in all aspects of International Programs administration for the past 22 years. She has worked in Swaziland, Kenya and Russia, and continues to stay involved with international development activities whenever possible. Martha teaches the ED 692 workshop on "International Programs in Higher Education" which provides an overview of international programs activities on university campuses. It is offered in the spring semester in the even-numbered years. In addition, she loves to collect beads, particularly antique African beads; travel internationally and read. Her latest work focus is on internationalizing the campus and curriculum and working specifically with faculty and academic programs.

Jody Donovan
I am originally from Nebraska, but I call Colorado “home.” I currently serve as the Director of Student Transitions and Parent and Family Programs. Within the SAHE program, I co-teach Student Development Theory each fall with Lisa Miller. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Nebraska Wesleyan University and my Masters degree in Educational Psychology/College Student Development at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Higher Education Student Affairs Leadership at the University of Northern Colorado and hope to wear my Hood at the SAHE graduation in May 2007! My family consists of Nate, my partner of 15 years, and our two sons, Matthew (12 yrs) and Patrick (8.5 yrs). My research interests center on student development theory and the experiences of parents and families of college students.

Mike Ellis
I originally hail from southern California where I attended the University of California, Irvine. After receiving my MA degree in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Maryland at College Park and my first professional experience in the college union, I relocated west to assume responsibilities as the Director of the Union at Weber State University. During part of my eight year tenure at Weber State, I attended the University of Utah and received my Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership, with a concentration in higher education. I currently serve as the Executive Director of the Lory Student Center, providing leadership and guidance for Campus Activities, the Associated Students of CSU (ASCSU), the University Bookstore, Dining Services, and Operations of the Lory Student Center. My favorite hobbies include camping, hiking, fly fishing and supporting my children’s many sporting and artistic endeavors.

Blanche Hughes
I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky and moved to Colorado the summer of 1982. I co-teach the Inclusive University course with Linda Ahuna. I enjoy advising SAHE students and sitting on their graduate committees. I also teach a first year seminar course called Cultural Interaction in a Global Society for the Key Academic Community on campus. I have an undergraduate degree in Physical Education from Earlham College, a master’s of education degree in College Student Personnel from Colorado State (the current SAHE program), and a doctorate in Sociology from Colorado State University. I serve as the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. I am married and have four children and one granddaughter.

Linda Kuk
I am a graduate of the SAHE program and also have an undergraduate degree from CSU. Three years ago, I had the unique opportunity to be able to return to my alma mater as the Vice President for Student Affairs. Professionally I have been involved in Student Affairs for over 30 years, the last 20 years as a Vice President for Student Affairs at three different institutions. Currently, I serve as a full-time faculty member in the School of Education as the SAHE Program Director. I also teach and advise in the SAHE program. My scholarly interests are in Student Affairs management, gender studies, and organizational behavior.

David McKelfresh
I received my bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Masters in College Student Personnel Administration from Colorado State University. I completed my Ph.D. in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Northern Colorado in 1987. I have worked with the CSU Housing and Dining Services Department since 1977 and I am currently on a joint-appointment as Director of Staff Training and Assessment, and as an Assistant Professor and Advisor in the SAHE Program. I am currently co-teaching the class on "Trends, Issues and Assessment in Higher Education" with Dr. Jim Dolak and have served as the Advisor to the SAHE Journal Board.

Lisa Miller
Currently, I am am the Director of the DAY Programs. The DAY (Drugs, Alcohol & You) Programs office was created as a result of the Alcohol Task Force and Colorado State University's commitment to be a leader in the prevention of college substance abuse. The DAY Programs office has a wide spectrum of services to meet the needs of students wherever they are along the continuum of use. I co-teach Student Development Theory with the guru of theory, Jody Donovan. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at CSU. My research interests include working with students who have drug and/or alcohol concerns. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Iowa where I received a B.G.S. I then ventured out west where I received a Master of Divinity from SF Theological Seminary.

Judy Muenchow
I grew up in Wisconsin and began working at CSU in August 2001 as the Director of Campus Recreation, which is part of the Division’s Wellness Cluster. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical and Health Education, and a Masters degree in Education with an emphasis in Physical Education. I completed a Ph.D. from the University of Wyoming in Educational Administration. I am excited to become a SAHE faculty member this year and will be assisting Blanche Hughes with the Portfolio class for second year SAHE students. I also contribute to the Wellness Workshop that is taught by Deb Morris of Hartshorn Health Service.
